This is an update regarding our work on developing a new chip strip for destruction management, which will be ready in 2-3 months (see picture – this is a regular plastic strip, but this is how the “chip strip” is going to look). Each strip will a have a unique electronic identity (like an electronic serial number) and be easily attached to any type of weapon collected for destruction (size, model, artisan etc) and environment (heat, dust, humidity). We believe it is the best and most cost-effective way to control assets that has no value (because they are going to be destructed) and the fastest way to install it in massive depots.

The chip strip will be a new generation of tamper evident chip (the supplier just launched the chip last week – primarily for department theft control) in the sense that if somebody tries to remove the strip by cutting it to avoid the alarm going off when existing through the gate control at the door, the chip will, when cut, send a signal to the hardware infrastructure and an alarm will go off.

The strips will be very useful also when transporting the weapons to different sites. Often the weapons are collected and stored for a while at the Police, then transported to a military depot for long-term storage, but there is no control of how many weapons are moved and if they all end up at the military facility. With this technology the weapons can be scanned in the truck (a reader typically reads 300 chips per second) and since the scanner has GPS too, the location and time is recorded. When the truck arrives to the military depot it will be scanned again and the number of weapons, time and location will be recorded. This way they can see if all the weapons arrived and how long time it took for the drivers to go the distance. The same goes when they are transported to the destruction site. A log will be created and you can track the weapons like a Fedex shipment.

Best regards,

Jacob
